i use flat double edger razors to cut. the blade i was using was getting dull cause ive been using it for a while so i taped it up and took out a fresh blade. i made a cut on my left arm while pressing down as hard as i would with the old blade and holy crap was there a difference. after i lifted the blade back up, my skin unstretched and revealed a cut about as wide as half my pinky nail. easily my widest yet. this was just now, im holding a towel on it while typing this to not make a mess. it looks so weird. when blotting the blood away, it still looks like a styro so i dont think i hit beans which is good cause i dont wanna hit beans. looking at this makes me kinda uncomfortable, at least itll leave a good scar.

moral of the story, take the sharpness/dullness of the blade into account before you press down hard.

Yes. That's for sure. I try aiming for the radial artery in the wrist. And I had tried to cut. A dull blade was so painful to cut with. Very painful. But I can't keep blades with me. I had stolen it from home. They get dull really fast.
So had gone to buy for the first time. I was damn nervous. Bought asprin and bandage too. A sweet treat to top it off lol.
It's really fascinating just how much of a difference a sharp one makes. It's so addictive. But I can't really do that my family is too loving they keep a watch on me. Anyways are you doing good?

Yeah, im doing alright. im too lazy to replace my razors every day despite having a box of like 100 so im just making do with the small, shallow styros. I dont want to cut deeper than styro and im not used to wide cuts like that one yet.

buddy 😭😭😭 dont do that. when you cut with dull blades its even more dangerous. because you press the dull blade down harder and cant really predict, how deep and wide will you cut be, you can accidentally cut much deeper than you expect. please, use sharp blades. and please dont press the blade down too hard. i dont want you to accidentally harm yourself more than you want to harm yourself

please, consider getting stitched up if your cut is gaping wide

if you see yellowish weird stuff - thats beans. just saying, just in case you didnt know. but im sure you know

how do u deal with wider cuts? im always scared of trying to apply pressure because, id hate to get an infection or its start shootibg out blood that itll stain smth. ik u can apply pressure to stablise the blood flow and to prevent heaps more from coming out but, how do u take care of it?

Ive never cut deeper than styro. even the really wide one i did was still styro, i didnt see any yellow bits. In my experience, for all my cuts ive just held a towel on my arm for a while. Sometimes id even go to sleep with the towel wrapped around my arm. blood doesnt start actually shooting until you go deeper and hit a vein.

these two threads have lots of really good info and resources on how to clean and take care of your cuts.

I don't recommend dull blades at all.
They're not only unpredictable, as stated by another person, but they scar worse too, which can lead to slower healing and being noticed much faster. They essentially rip through the skin rather than cut it.
It can be kind of hard keeping up with the sharpness though, especially if you clean them often (which you should!).

yeah it definitely feels more like a rip than a cut. sometimes id press down hard and barely even get a styro. In just gonna stop being lazy stop using my blades after they get dull. kinda annoying how fast they dull though.

I think I should've post this on my profile instead of whining on your thread, but I can't help it. I hate the usage of the sh jargon like "beans" "styro" and "cat scratches". That, along with your desensitized way of talking about your sh looks highly concerning (and even triggering) to me. I feel like it really downplays the seriousness of the issue at hand. But again, it seems hypocritical to complain about it when you're on a forum using euphemisms like ctb on a regular basis. It's just a weird pet peeve of mine probably because it reminds me of my naive, dumb teenage self.

I don't think it's inherently bad to be bothered by someone talking about things you struggled/struggle with in a calm way. It all depends on the person and no one should call you hypocritical or whiny for feeling uncomfortable with it.
It's a big issue, I agree. The jargon is kind of silly to me too, personally, hence why I never use it unless I really have to. I feel like it can sometimes make the talk of SH feel "cutesy"(Not sure if that's the right word), or worse, be used to shame the person and make them feel like their struggle isn't enough.
I can't express the amount of times I've cringed at a post online, on a public platform, discussing these topics like it's a chat over tea, despite the fact that impressionable children could see it. That's before even mentioning how some people specifically call other people's wounds "cat scratches" to shame them for somehow not hurting themselves enough.

Though, in its own way, talking about these topics in such a desensitized way is a sign of prolonged suffering. Sometimes, this kind of talk is just a way of reaching out to see where one could be safe venting, even when it gets dark and gruesome.

You're not a hypocrite at all. I get what you mean, I only use words like styro or beans just to make it easier to specify what im doing, and i do inderstand that the mentality i look at my sh with is probably very bad and that i should take it more seriously.

You should be able to complain about whatever you want on here.

its weird and no one asked about my opinion, but i will tell it anyway, haha
so english sh community (lol, sh community... cringe... but i dont know how to name it, hence so be it) uses those euphemisms. but i once found myself in russian sh community. and i was surprised, that they dont use any euphemisms and call things by their names. like epidermis, dermis, fat... it just felt so weird and... idk. it kinda made me realize a seriousness of this topic for a moment

but at the same time i like those euphemisms. well, our situation is beyond tragic. so at least we could invent our funny jargon and have a little laugh. well, not laugh, but those words are so weird and on the spot at the same time. idk how to explain it. and probably my explanation sucked 😭😭😭 idk, i just earn for communication with other human beeings. god, im so lonely
