What do you think about this method?

It depends mostly on how high a person is and what they are landing on. 250 feet onto water and 150 feet onto concrete has a 95-98% fatality rating.

Expensive, complicated, and with several parameters that are out of your control.

I wouldn't want to risk having my fall dampened by vegetation, and I wouldn't want to traumatize families watching the balloon.
I would also not be comfortable letting a big balloon with a burner keep going on its own after I had jumped. Neither would I be comfortable with jumping off a small basket with other people present.

Not gonna lie, it sounds exciting, but there are too many variables involved, including the possibility of traumatizing onlookers or hurting someone you may fall on top of. Simplicity is king when it comes to important matters.

I don't think a hot air balloon practical, but this does make me wonder if anyone has ever gone skydiving and purposefully not deployed their parachute. Still not worth the risk of traumatizing others, IMO, but interesting to think about nonetheless.

Hot air balloons go plenty high to CTB successfully, and it's not terribly uncommon for people to fall from them and die. The main issue is the pilot will not appreciate your idea of exiting mid-flight and they might try to stop you. They are responsible for your safety and it would be traumatic to have your passenger kill themselves right in front of you.

A similar concept is to rent a helicopter for a sightseeing tour and jump from it. This has been done successfully.

I wouldn't consider either of these methods to be ethical or recommended, since they traumatize someone whos duty is to protect your safety. You also can't control where you land, and who knows who'll encounter your exploded corpse.

And this had been done, even documented on YT. Not ctb attempt but base-jumper was stopped by pilot and passengers from exiting the baloon mid air.
So, as an idea - of course it will work, just as any other jump from a place high enough but there are additional factors that might thwart an attempt.

I'm scared of heights. I even hate going on an airplane. So for me to even consider this method.... Hell. No.

Agree with all these points, plus I think it'd be very hard to get out of the basket without someone stopping you, it's very high.

It would make a great love story if the balloon-pilot who is stopping you from jumping is very handsome and understanding and you end up talking about your problems to him.
