I'm not entirely familiar with the case, but from what I've read I'd have to fall behind Johnny Depp. Not going to sit here and defend a celebrity, but I've been with women like Heard before. Was he a druggie? Yeah. Was he probably a piece of shit? Wouldn't be surprised. On a complete basis of an appeal to emotion, I get it. Not to the same extent that he allegedly experienced from Heard, but I've dealt with mentally and emotionally taxing women before. I've had women push me to the point where I snap and say things I don't completely mean while I'm heated, I've had women stab me, everything in between as well. It's hard, but it doesn't completely redeem him. I'd have to look into the case more to form an opinion deeper than my borderline fence sitting, but with what I currently understand I'd have to sympathize with Depp and empathize with both.

and yet this is what happens to the majority of women who commit any crime. it's never seen as as bad as when a man commits the same crime. why do you (and so many others) pretend this is exclusive to men? women get away with shit with 0 repercussions way more than men do, on average, by virtue of being women.

also, people sided with depp not because he's a man (in what fucking world do people side with men just because they're men in our current society? men are punished far worse than women are for the same crimes), they sided with him because he's a hot celebrity who acted in their favorite movies and people can't separate actors from the characters they play. on the other hand, many men sided with him because they saw themselves in him and recognized that depp winning could be a potential win for battered and abused men being taken even remotely seriously by society for once. the average man is laughed at and shunned when he tries to report his abuse, so they cling to cases like depp because it's representative of their own lives. seeing a man succeed where the average man usually fails due to a sexist system is liberating and healing for them.
