To be fair, there are tons of pictures of me as a child, smiling, doesn't mean I was actually happy in the slightest, nor did it mean I would not become miserable and more self aware as I got older.
I could take a picture of my ugly face right here and now, make it grin and seemingly laugh, I'll still be cringing and wishing for a bullet to the brain throughout every second of the charade.

Life without parole and 24/7 suicide watch that is definitely punishment. He killed a child though that is awful so I don't have much sympathy for him.

Having suicide watch on top of a life sentence is stupid and only exists to satisfy the sadistic urges of those writing and administering the punishment. The criminal will never be free so forcing them to live is nothing more than needless torture.
