It's almost always not "wrong", ideally other coping mechanisms get used (since it can be dangerous) but this is the real world, and mild, controlled injury is only moderately risky if precautions are followed.
The only time I'd think it be wrong is if the SH was done to "punish" someone else for whatever, eg "Talk to me or I'll sh", in all other cases it isn't morally wrong.
it's just another coping mechanism, isn't it? it can be risky sometimes, but people that sh usually already know that, and accept the risk. (reminder to check out your sh methods harm reduction tips, if you're interested!)
I don't think either right or wrong apply unless someone were being forced by another to self harm, in which case it would be wrong. On the other hand, I don't think harm could be considered right unless it were a choice between that and something more harmful.
