My best friend openly talks about not wanting to wake up. He is very content with the idea of death. He often wishes car crashes on himself or that a tree would fall through his house.

I've decided this is what I am going to do, quite happily as I have no other option and sick of fighting for my own life.

Is it selfish to speak with my friend before hand and tell him or should I just send an email before hand?

I want to speak with him because of everything he has tried to do to make my life better and tell him the truth about all the things I have lied about and ultimately broken that trust.

I'm conflicted on this. One close friend knows and one family member knows I am suicidal. I felt bad burdening them at first, yet I think it's justified in that the shock will be lessened when I do CTB.

This is my exact thoughts. People always say I wish I would have gotten the chance to speak with XXX and I want to give that chance but selfishly I also want to speak with him. I am opting for full suspension so there really is no going back, unless the damn rope breaks.

Well, only trouble usually comes from such confession type chats. Nothing good can come from it, neautral at best.

So a delayed email is one way to say the stuff so it's too late for any kind of well meant intervention.

Or you could have the real chat in real time but say you're planning for around xmas. This means even in the worse case scenario he won't be in an immediate hurry to tell anyone as the event seems so far away.

You could then send him a delayed email after you're gone just saying 'sorry I went earlier than planned'

Your friend is openly suicidal but you are concerned about telling them you are?

Hmmm, I would've thought of all people this would be one you could.

Still. If you're serious about it, don't. Nothing good can come of it, unless it's a cry for help. Sure, leave a note if you feel necessary but you'd only be, at best, worrying them about something they can do nothing about and, at worst, drawing attention to your intentions and failing an attempt or being locked up.
