I "support" him too even though I consider myself a moderate. I realize he's worse but seeing some people I hate in my life cry about it really hard does give me a bit of catharsis and a reprieve from my own heartbreak. in all seriousness. i think a trump win will seriously accelerate the downhill development - and the justice system will be weakened even more, which might make corruption even worse.

on the other hand a biden win would change less then hoped. the structural deficits in many areas seems quite fundamental. but i dont know - maybe i see it too much through the john oliver bubble ^^

but for me as european it has that impression on me. not out of anti-americanism. as crazy some things are in the us - its also fascinating what it makes possible.
but i can't see a way out of this division.

Why? The lockdowns were the reason I joined this site to learn to CTB. I wanted no part of this "new normal", where everyone stays home, social distances, and virtue-signals about how nice all of it is. Trump wanted to end the pLandemic and reopen the economy by Easter, but Democrats didn't let him. Biden, on the other hand, will keep us locked up in our homes and the economy depressed at least until 2024, because "muh droplets".

I can understand how Trump's presidency might feel like a game of Russian roulette, which would satisfy a suicidal person's fantasy—when will the merciful bomb come down and end things instantaneously? This is the stance of accelerationists on the far left.

But the damage he does is more subtle (yes, the world's least subtle man does subtle damage).

And the chaos isn't distributed evenly: certain populations endure violence on account of his actions, his failures, his followers, his failure to act when his followers get violent.

I'm sure I sound like a naive SJW when I say the rise of fascism in America is already happening, but I think it's more naive to pretend this guy's chaos is cartoonish and silly when in fact it's symptomatic of a dark historical development.

The way you present your view is interesting to me—you want to die, and you want society to collapse too—but zoom out far enough and I feel like the logic works in reverse too. The factors that make up this collapse have been in the works for a while, Trump being just a figurehead for them, and have probably contributed to your suicidality, and mine. Biden won't fix that, and neither would a Harris presidency, but at the very least I think I can trust them not to, say, put any more kids in cages or fail to enact a plan in the face of a pandemic.

Hope none of that comes across as too condescending. I can only respect certain strains of nihilism I guess.

Either way there is going to be alot of riots this week and beyond, if you thought this summer was bad just wait. I want this country to burn, I want it to balkanize honestly but I don't want Trump to win either. There needs to be a compromise, it's gone too far at this point. You phrase this as though there's an equal chance the left will take up arms in the event of a Trump victory as there is of another Charleston-type riot in the event of a Biden victory. There is bound to be some violence either way but it will be valenced differently. It's easy to look at footage of a burning cop car and say the tiki torches were child's play in comparison but if you feel this way, or feel there's even an equivalency, (that can be addressed with some kind of 'compromise') I'd encourage you to reconsider.
