Is it really necessary to fast to take SN? If I don't, what can happen?

Your body absorbs the SN much better on an empty stomach. When there is food in your stomach it leaves a lot more variability in the attempt with the possibility of survival higher.

That's true, I remember reading about it on some page here at SS, thanks for reminding me.

Yes, it's vital for all oral overdoses. One of the many drawbacks.

I'm sure it's contentious to say so but the thing is that we don't actually know. In theory it might mean that absorption will be quicker, but in the absence of actual empirical evidence, there's really no saying whether the effect would be significant or hold at all when assuming a sufficiently large dose and controlling for other factors. I can think of a member or two from here who succeeded without fasting, and that's to say nothing of accidental lethal SN poisonings, which most likely did not involve fasts.

Still, fasting being necessary is a claim that's been repeated countless times, and quite simply (and understandably) no one wants to take a risk and deviate from the standard procedure. If I use my SN I will certainly consider skipping it—I suspect that taking something very salty on an empty stomach could be exacerbating nausea. Of course, that is just a theory too.

It seems sensible. Not just faster absorbtion but, less chance of vomiting the food and SN back up I believe.

It's definitely not necessary. It's not like food can act as an antidote. Despite that, people who know way more than myself about this (like the Exit International, if I remember correctly) seem to agree about the benefits of fasting. And for some cases (like some meds, I don't know if it also applies to SN), it's well known that fasting allows for a better absorption.

If you want to try yourself, feel free. But I think it's really reasonable, as you say, that most people decide to follow the standard procedure because it's the safest choice with the knowledge we have right now.

Someone reasonable put in another thread they were much more likely to throw-up their everyday medication when taken on an empty stomach so they intended to have some very light soup. That sounded very logical to me.
