Assuming you don't believe your friend is the best candidate- would your loyalty to them still endure- would you vote for them? Or, would you vote for the person you thought was genuinely the best?
I once visited a photography exhibition where a good friend had an entry. There was a chance at the end to vote (in secret) as to who took your favourite picture there. I felt so torn because- I wanted to vote for my friend. Their photograph was beautiful but, there was one there that was incredible so- I voted for the one I truthfully thought the best.
It's complicated though- where to put your integrity. I felt guilty afterwards because- had the roles been reversed. Had it been an exhibition I had work in, I imagine they would have voted for me. No matter if there was someone there who's work was far better. That probably makes me a bad friend.
