I know Im not the only one who seethes when I see this argument pushed online.
Locals say the most redundant crap youve ever heard and act like its groundbreaking example #29929292929:
"If you really hated life, youd be dead already!! If you really hated life, you wouldnt care about the pain you wouldve died already!! Checkmate!" for an example, think the nihilst episode of Smiling Friends.

Its the stupidest shit ever, literally everybody fears pain, SI is natural. No fucking shit people are afraid of pain, one. Two, most CTB attempts fail, and people that wait are trying to avoid that and three, a lot of people fear the afterlife. Death isnt an easy thing at all, that doesnt automatically mean we secretly all love living and are just edgy attention seekers or whatever else theyre implying

A long time ago... a friend of mine wrote in my high school yearbook a lot of things... but buried in there was a quote from him that said, "Try not to be so depressed, it does nothing but ruin a good mood." The thing was, he was being funny... being funny in an attempt to cheer me up, but he was being funny, not know-it-all fuckery. The problem is when people say that shit with no sense of irony or humor and fucking mean it somehow.

Homeless? Go get a house... Hungry? Eat a sandwich. Poor? Get some money... Unemployed? Just get a job. GENIUS! You've cured all problems with simple inane statements! Fuck those people.

Most people biggest fear is loss of one's sense of self and/or dying. It's mostly an ego-response to cope with the reality of their own mortality.

It's very bizarre because, in some ways, it feels as if they are pushing for it. As in- really? So, you might acknowledge that I am struggling that much and, if I were struggling that much, it would be reasonable, even inevitable I would do it? So- you don't mind me not considering the affect it might have on you then? You'll be ok with that, then? They won't be- of course. The moment, the poor sod commits, it will go back to being a 'selfish act'. One they should never have taken. No matter how much they were suffering. They shouldn't have inflicted the pain of loss on others.

It just feels weird. Like they are almost saying for someone in so much pain, they actually should be so desperate that it overcomes everything else. Will those same people forgive those that have actually CTB then? Likely not. They'll then call it selfish or, the 'easy way out'. Apparently, after the act, they did in fact have other options and they should have thought of the devastation upon others.

The only reason I haven't killed myself is because there are no guaranteed suicide methods. I have fear of failing and remaining alive with brain damage which is stopping me for now


They made suicide a billion times more difficult by making every guaranteed suicide method into crimes.

For example the only reason I cant hire someone to aid me with suicide or to kill me is because they made that a crime. Its guaranteed because someone else xan easily kill me and make sure im dead.

It's ridiculously easy for someone else to kill me but a gun for example. I however only get one shot while someone else can shoot me 10 times

this is what always keeps me from going through with it. i'm not afraid of the pain, i've attempted ctb before and it's left me with lingering pain but i can handle that. what i can't handle is the thought that i might be left a vegetable, then i'm stuck constantly feeling the pain of life with no way to end it. life is so much worse if i know i don't even have the option.

You made an argumentative and accusatory post, so I'll do the same.

I'm a pragmatic person. The problem with your kind of thinking is that it doesn't bring you closer to any kind of solution. You're not trying to recover. And complaining about how hard it is to CTB won't lead to any solution either. All you do is complain.

You claim that saying "if you really wanted it, you would do it" is the stupidest shit ever. But what if you want something, and you just keep crying "I want it but can't do it". Yeah, real smart.

I know very well I won't achieve anything by writing this down, and the people who keep complaining will just keep complaining no matter what, because that's what they do. The same is true for homeless people or people who can't get a job. (I'm just referring to @Dejected 55's examples from earlier.)

Some people will achieve what they want. Some people won't, but they'll think about alternative solutions or a different approach they could take. And some people will just keep complaining, because that's all they can do. That's who they are.

I'm not saying you're wrong and I'm right or vice versa. Different people have different perspectives.

This reminds me of a mental health documentary I was watching about a psychiatric unit somewhere in the UK, and about some of the patients on the unit. A psychiatrist being interviewed literally said, "If people are truly suicidal then they would have killed themself already." It was one of the most ignorant statements I had ever heard. Not surprising to hear from a psychiatrist, who are among the most ignorant (to put it nicely) people out there.

A psychiatrist being interviewed literally said, "If people are truly suicidal then they would have killed themself already." It was one of the most ignorant statements I had ever heard. Not surprising to hear from a psychiatrist, who are among the most ignorant (to put it nicely) people out there.

The whole concept is so weird, so if suicidality is only valid when someone is dead, then there is no point in any of their platitudes, or even actual genuine help, because "real" suicidal people would already be dead and all those "posers" are just attention seekers who ig dont deserve help.

Exactly!! Like how fucking ignorant can people be?? But people really do think like this. Even these "mental health professionals" society puts on a pedal stool even though they have no idea what they are doing and are just blindly regurgitating information and practices that all of their colleagues are blindly following as well. It's such a bullshit system don't even get me started lol. But yeah I don't understand this mindset at all but I have heard it so many times from so many different people. Even from therapists, teachers, psych nurses... people in authority who we are pushed to "reach out to", only to "reach out" to people who are truly incredibly apathetic, ignorant, and sometimes downright cruel.
