I've been studying psychology for years and one thing I hear time and time again is that suicide is preventable. But I'm starting to believe it isn't. Psych wards only work for a few days. Medication only mitigates some illnesses. If someone is dedicated, they will seek out and option to ctb no matter what. No amount of therapy can fix some people. Some people are just doomed to feel miserable until they die. It's not fair to keep them here. Idk. I'm still new here and curious of other's thoughts.

To me prevention is just prolonging the suffering and torture of existing and I see so much cruelty in how suffering is seen as to force and prolong no matter what, I'd personally never wish to suffer in this existence rather I just want to not exist, non-existence really is all that's desirable and positive for me, I'd always prefer to not exist than suffer in this existence I always saw as the most terrible mistake just waiting to not exist anyway suffering all for the sake of it just to be tortured by old age. Existence itself really is the true problem to me, I just see it as so cruel how I cannot just have the option to simply cease existing in peace even know this existence was so tragically imposed, I always suffer so much from being enslaved in this futile and torturous existence I just never would had chosen.

suicide can be permanently prevented only and only by completely removing the issue which caused suicidal ideation in the first place. anything else, including therapy and medication (for SOME people) is simply postponing it.

the catch here is that some problems in life are unsolvable.

I watched a couple of weeks ago an episode of Dr Who called "Vince and the Doctor". Vince was at the time a failure with mental illness and Dr Who knew Vince was to kill himself. By the end of the episode after defeating an alien and boosting Vinces confidence the Doctor and his time traveling buddy decided they were going to say to hell with time travel rules they wanted to prevent his suicide. They trick Vince into a time machine and bring him to the future to show him how he beloved. Vince breaks down crying in happiness and they bring him back home. Later at the very end they learn he still took his own life. and the Doctors time traveling buddy started to feel sad this was said.

DOCTOR: "I wouldn't say that. The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. Hey. The good things don't always soften the bad things, but vice versa, the bad things don't necessarily spoil the good things or make them unimportant. And we definitely added to his pile of good things"
And that episode resonated with me. As I imagine if I had even suffered a lot less and became stable I don't think it would change my mind. I think a lot of people wouldn't change their mind if things suddenly went there way. That sometimes the good doesn't outweigh the bad. But good stuff can still make a difference even if its not enough to change the outcome and ending it all is still the desired thing

Preventing suicide means preventing treatment. Suicide is not the problem but the solution. The only way to "prevent" the solution is to prevent the problem.

I think its because everyone saying that has never been that low in their life that they thought of ctb. SO they assume that there is always a way to get better. But the reality is they have no idea what they are talking about. Put them in one of our shoes and they will understand. Everyone is raised to assume suicide is horrible and "how can anyone do that" so when people think its preventable they assume since they are fine that someone suicidal can get fine. It doesnt work like that.

This is where I'm at, yeah. It's very possible life could open up before me in ways I can't predict, but that's not enough reason for me to stay from where I'm looking now.

It wouldn't satisfy me to get what I want. I can't even say I want anything (anymore, if I ever really did). It's the pain I'll leave behind that makes me bristle and pause, not what I'll be missing. To have incarnated at all feels like too much of a curse to regret wanting to exit now.

Though, who knows. I'd consider mine a pretty unique case.

It depends on the cause. It's more likely preventable if the problem is short lived. Some problems aren't. Euthanasia is technically socially approved suicide.

in some cases it can be prevented... for example, ppl who cant see out of his poverty, if they had money, they would continue to live...

in my case, having a gf that loved me for real would prevent it... life would still hurt a lot, but id have the strength to deal with it...
