I think that study is bullshit. Either that or it takes into account attempts that aren't serious or weren't done right.

1. use a tent or a car, it needs to be airtight; seal it properly
2. buy a CO meter to measure CO concentration up to 10k ppm
3. buy a chimney starter and some charcoal briquettes
4. do a test run with your tent/car; light up the chimney starter, let the coal burn for ~30min (until it has turned to ember),put it into your car/tent (maybe put a plate filled with water underneath to prevent a fire breaking out)
5. measure CO concentration with the CO meter (that's still the test run)
6. tweak your setup until you reach 10k+ ppm of CO concentration

first recorded case of charcoal burning suicide is from 1998 in hong kong

thus this must be one of the cases where the people just go drunk, went into the garage and started their car without any preparation
