I have read the threads on here already about guns and the way that they can be used to CTB, and I have chosen the shotgun route, but I am torn about whether I should dedicate my already limited energy towards gun practice. How important is this to successfully CTB?

probably not a lot? gun practice is mosstly on a distance and i dont see how that could be usefull. You should read some articles on what part you're supposed to hit when you do shoot tho

If you're not comfortable with the gun, you're more likely to flinch, which could make it possible to mess up even with a shotgun.

Moreover, I would imagine that it's scarier to fire the thing if you've never done so before.

And it's always good to test one's gear to make sure that everything works correctly before one uses it for the purpose of CTB.
