How do you feel about your birthday coming up

My birthday is coming up in a few minutes (and yeah, I say a few minutes, despite the fact that it's technically today, but the thing is, I actually know it by my birth time)

Do wanna know how everybody feels about their birthday

Because I feel like shit, of course

I imagine I feel pretty common feeling about my birthday as others in our community. I don't look forwards to it, don't want to do anything, overall a lack of care for it, except for if I don't get a message that basically says "Happy birthday" from my two friends. Then the feeling of worthlessness and hopelessness hits, because of course I don't deserve that but it's something I hold on to, selfishly wanting that thoughtfulness to appease my mind or something I guess.

I definitely get the birthday blues these past few years.
I don't like attention focused on me so it's not like I would want a big deal made out of it. It's more just the act of remembering. I am too sensitive and take it personally when anyone irl that I have consistent contact with forgets. And of course that's what I'll focus on.

I like other people's birthdays but I definitely feel pretty complicated about my own. They were not really a big deal for me growing up (not really any fuss or celebration). I feel fine with that, but just getting older brings a lot of rumination and anxiety for me. Some years it catches me in an especially bad emotional state; when that happens I feel really averse to people acknowledging it even with casual birthday messages- but then I end up feeling really guilty and Wrong for not reacting "correctly" to what most people view as a happy occasion. But after all I think this is not actually that uncommon of a way to feel, and in a way it is a "normal" reaction to feel bad, if your birthday is something that brings you psychological pain or discomfort, whether it's from your past or from what it's tied to currently or from what it brings to mind. For me at least I feel that it's not that I'm ideologically opposed to birthdays as a concept or anything, but it just happens to make me think about a lot of heavy and disappointing things, and that's really hard to cope with if your general day-to-day already has a lot of stress in it.

I'm sorry you're feeling like shit. Beyond it being your birthday, that's a really rough way to feel in general. If being wished happy birthday is something that is comforting for you, happy birthday, but if it's not a comfort at all, I get it and that's okay. You're not obligated to feel a certain way about these things. In any case I'm glad you could talk a little about it.

I'm sorry you're feeling down today. Know you're not alone in this feeling. I dread my birthday every year because I don't feel like my existence deserves to be celebrated. I also don't like celebrating the fact that I'm still here
