Venting Honest work doesn't pay off anymore.

I always dreamt of buying a farm far away from the city. It has been the number one thing for me since I was in my early teens. Now im working my ass off at a job I don't like 13 hours a day only to earn about 50k a year where more than 30% goes to taxes, and at least 20% for a place to live, food, insurance, gas etc. So let's be optimistic and say I can save 25k a year (which seems impossible) then I only have to work about 15-20 years for an average farm where I live! It's so insane how I have to work this hard for what others gain in a month by doing "work" like selling their bodies on OF, being a cornstar, scamming people, being bad influencers and in general the most morally wrong things. I contribute to society and what do I get? Finally achieving my dream of an average farm when im 40-50 years old? I feel so stuck. It makes me want to quit my job. If it's gonna take me that long to live out my dream, then I might as well quit and try to live other ways outside the system.

Seems we're going back to the good and old serfdom system, little by little, huh? I'm sorry you can't do this. I would love to have a farm or cabin or otherwise large lodge near a forest.

Also what's the problem with being a cornstar? Are you against cornography? I must say that I consume corn daily and it always made my day better!

I've gotten such a kick out of watching homestead and farming videos on YouTube for so long. I've always wished I could retire and build out some cabin in the wilderness and just live life there.

But it's very difficult though. You need a lot of money. You need to save money and have passive income coming in so that you can retire. Otherwise to live and just farm by yourself won't bring in enough revenue to survive.

One of my favorite TV shows is Alone. Where contestants fight for half of $1,000,000 by building a camp themselves out in the wilderness. The person who lasts the longest wins.

I wish I was rich so I could actually setup something like this. Not too sure about people coming there to kill themselves though. I don't wanna let people die.

Im currently working on some projects outside of work to make passive income in the future. If it ever works out I promised myself I would try and help out others.

Oh, I understand you don't want people to die, but SaSu is all about having choice. Maybe only the ones that wanna live? It warms my heart that you have such a desire to help. I hope things work out for you either way!

Yeah, I respect your beliefs about having a choice. I absolutely get it and have a failed attempt myself but as of now im glad I failed, so supporting choice feels wrong because of what could've been if you know what I mean. There are definitely cases that you should have a choice though.

Yeah, but serfdom existed before capitalism. What I think is happening is that we are under the guise of capitalism, a modern system, but we really are just a fancy serfdom with the illusion of social ascension.

30% in taxes is gotta find the sweet spot where you make decent money but keep a low tax bracket. Also if you're making decent $ buying a small farm is possible with a mortgage. I don't know what you mean exactly by "farm". Like a hobby farm (you could still work a "normal" job) a crop farm or more homesteading

I want to be self-sufficient and work 24/7 on my own farm. Like have my own land and do whatever I want with it. I want to have cows, chicken, crops and maybe a few horses etc. I have worked on a farm before, and also grew up on the countryside and have done my research so I think I could do fine. The problem is my country doesn't treat farmers good, and 2/3 farmers have had to sell their farms in the past 20 years because of going bankrupt. By the way, 30% tax is for us brokies. Many people here get 40-50% taxes because they earn more than I do right now. Which makes it very hard when property is so expensive nowadays.

I live in a more socialist country. We just have ridicilous taxes that go to pointless stuff so our leaders are getting richer and richer because they work for themselves and not the people.
