My SN has thickened. A month ago, if I weighed 3 heaped teaspoons, it weighed 25g. Now, 2 heaped teaspoons weigh 27g. Does this mean it's no longer good? I kept it in two sealed bags.

I read somewhere that they are not very reliable as proof 😪
If the test is done with errors, maybe, tho if done carefully, it is less likely to give error. Do control tests before re-opening the SN, not after, to avoid SN dust affecting control

Besides strips and blood, are there any other ways to test it?

not sure... I don't have lab rats to give the SN to (besides the ethics concern of potentially ending the rat's life).

I never heard that. Maybe because of air leakage ? That's why I orderer another bottle and I think I won't test it (or maybe just before I plan to drink it). The company say it's 99% pure so I trust them

I thought I was the only one to have this idea lol. But I will never do that. I hate violence and I probably have more respect for rats than for most humans...

It's because SN is really hygroscopic. Moisture has bound to the salt and made it heavier. I was thinking about this yesterday and how it could impact CTB but I think if someone takes 25 grams that's way over the lethal dose anyway. I've never seen anyone mention this on here until today.

If you have exposed it to air for extended periods of time it could have absorbed moisture but I doubt that's the case. Teaspoons are generally not a reliable measuring tools. You can't always replicate a "heaped" amount and will always give of different results each time.

Sure, I'll use a scale, but I'm wondering if 25 g really weighs 25 g now. If I understand correctly, 25 g used to take three teaspoons, but now it only takes two. I understand they're never the same size, but the weight can't differ by 1/3. I wonder if any chemists can answer this question?

25g of SN in the past may change weight in the future... however, measuring the bag as a whole might be a slightly better approach... since it's whole weight shouldn't change if product isn't removed

This made me look at my SN again. I received mine in June this year and it appeared fluffy, no lumps. I stored it in a mason jar. The SN appears to have lost its fluffiness, it's more compressed and compact (almost like salt), more crystal like and I think about the same amount measures 2.5g I used to test with (about a teaspoon). I live in a humid place, but don't think the inside of a mason jar could be affected?

I don't know if the above it's useful, but I'm also thinking to order another pack like @unluckysadness mentions.

imo the jar could have humidity from the environment.

PS: cool, precise scale.

Thanks, do you think the SN might be at risk of having degraded? How could we know?

I just think about something : my SN comes from Poland and on the bottle, the production date is april 2025 (expiration date april 2028). But we had heatwaves this summer in Europe, and I wonder how did the company store the stocks ? And now it's rainy in Europe.

The first SN I've ordered came from a chemical company, and the second one came from an online store that sells all sort of products. The only thing we know is that air leakage is not good (I read that it could be transformed into sodium nitrate). So better buy another one because it will be more and more restricted in the next months. If any chemist reads this post, please tell us if you know something about this product.

I'm unsure... maybe the test strips will be a reference? Tho the hyper lethal recommended dose I have seen was merely to speedup the effects iirc.. so maybe there is some redundancy?

Thanks, I'm definitely buying another one, not taking any chances.

Hi I live in Germany and was wondering if you could DM me the vendor in Poland because I am looking into some vendor in the EU. I can only find those who sell to businesses

that is the interesting thing, several sites sell it at different rates, but I have no idea which restrict to labs or not, and which may have silent reporting (imo, that inconveniences everyone and hopefully is rare). DS stated in the cart, that they only ship to labs or similar.

No I mean 25g of just SN is more than enough so if 25g was actually 15g of SN it would still be a lethal amount.

Also, I was thinking. Was your SN more compacted? I was thinking another reason it might weigh more is because it's more dense from sticking together. When it was fresh it might have not stuck together as much.
