Hi 👋🏻

I just wondered if anyone has ever remained silent during a MHA assessment? If so - what was the outcome?

Thanks

Hi!

Yes, overall, the 1st time I did not say much at all, and the psychiatrist was NOT happy with me. She got the court system involved and I had to go to court. I remember it like yesterday, and this was in 2015, and having 2 deputy sheriffs come to the hospital and parade me through the lobby into a waiting van with sheriff decals all over it.

I have mentioned this on here before, as I had to fight with the judge to not have a 6-month commitment.

I feel that they were extremely heavy handed with me to prove a point to all the others that were in the hospital with me at that time.

I did not say much in my first MHA assessment too. I just did a MHA assessment yesterday. I was trying to explain to people that I can be qualified as have untreatable illness in Holland. And it's completely legal to apply euthanasia there. But I don't think people in this country get the idea.

If it's ok to ask, did you get sectioned for refusing to speak?

No, I did not. I agreed to go to hospital so I did not been sectioned. But if I did not agree, they would section me in that time because the od amount that I took, it made me have to go. they already made decision in that time so it's does not matter what I said.

Thank you and sorry for your experience.

I was just curious if one found oneself in an assessment and said nothing, they wouldn't have anything to twist and use against you. Like 'no comment' in a police interview.

I cannot lie but telling the truth keeps getting me in trouble - so if I say nothing, they can't do anything.

Saying nothing is not too bad. The things usually cause people been sectioned is overreacting like shouting and arguing with them or trying to say they are not ill, they don't want to go to hospital etc. Then the situation will be harder. I guess the nurse or support worker would prefer people to be quite rather than keep self harming, have challenge behaviours. If you are just be quite, they intend to leave you alone. And will not pay too much attention on you. For the people have more difficult behaviours, the doctor intend to range more activities such as group talk. And you have to attend.

They never ask me go to any that group. Personally I don't like to share my stories in a group. But some people really like the groups.

Not silent but I would say I adopted a very rational attitude & gave nothing away but fresh air. I was done in 40 mins. It seemed they were more interested in covering their own asses by ticking the boxes.

I was pretty rational in one of mine. I'm a stubborn shite and motivated by reading some stuff on here. It all made sense to me and I'm convinced that it made sense to them. I outlined the whys the reasoning all methodical, level headed and totally honestly. I obvs left out the wheres and hows. I thought I made a pretty good argument for suicide - yay. They were all like suicide - nay and I found myself sectioned. Sometimes there's just no reasoning with some people lol.
