Help Hanging question

Is the noose supposed to have a fixed and constant size, or should it be adjustable by pulling above and below the knot?
Idk if the question is clear but it's the best i can explain it.

Also which knot works best? I'm going with slip knot but idk.

I've read the wiki but couldn't figure out this stuff, so would appreciate the help.

i think so, you can try to put something in and pull that thing, stick for example (it will be harder to do it with hands because our hands are squishy/compressible)
slipknot should be fine
