Directly to the heart is death pretty much. Even if someone gets you help immediately it probably won't help. The issue is getting through the breast plate.

Would a .44 with Hollow Point do it?

Yeah, you have to be a student of anatomy to get this just right.

I say it would. Find your ribs and shoot in between them. I have no idea what bleeding out might feel like. There's no "lights out" like an intraoral shot, though. You'd be conscious for some "X" period of time.

Bear in mind that some of these have pictures you may not want to see. But you can find some information:
  1. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4885112/ the case of a schizophrenic woman who attempted ctb by this method, survived
  2. https://journals.lww.com/amjforensi...sic_issues_in_suicidal_single_gunshot.23.aspx paywalled, but has statistical information
  3. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0379073804006085 another link with information
  4. https://tsaco.bmj.com/content/6/1/e000694 more info on unusual spots for self-inflicted gunshot wounds
I hope some of those contain the information you seek. Is there a reason you're set for this location rather than cranial or intraoral?

Thank you! Yeah there seems like less of a chance of paralysis/brain damage

No, not really. Sry. You might find some stats on the open Internet if you look hard enough. IMO, I think a hole in the heart is pretty much not survivable. You'd bleed out in short order.
