I think it's a reference to a movie called The Matrix, where taking the blue pill would have Neo go back to his slime pod to live out the false VR life the machines had him trapped in. Choosing the red pill meant choosing to see the unfortunate reality and join the scrappy grungy good guys in fighting the bad guys. Not sure if that is what this user means though.
