It's pretty shity that counselors in suicide hotlines are not allowed to give personal opinions. Those hotlines are such bullshit honestly. Remember Ted Bundy? Yeah he worked for a suicide hotline for a while.
They claim to be "confidential" too, such bullshit. The trigger finger they have for the police is insane.Fuck 988, 988 has fucking counselors. I talked to a counselor in 988 today and she made me feel like I'm a piece of shit. Fuck 988

The term "suicide prevention" is no longer in the name of 988 right now. 988's name was National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Now it's 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline. They claim to be "confidential" too, such bullshit. The trigger finger they have for the police is insane.
As mask off as they'll ever get, they have the audacity to tell you straight up they don't track you tooThe term "suicide prevention" is no longer in the name of 988 right now. 988's name was National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Now it's 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.
Thank you. Hugs to youI called them one time, never ever again. A complete waste of time.
Made me feel very sad for you, that you were treated that way, as you are too nice of a person for that kind of behavior.
Hugs to you and you are family here,
Walter
In the U.S. if you are suicidal then you look for help by cops, they may shoot you to death if you don't follow their instructions, and they will call it suicide by cop. Otherwise, cops are just likely to handcuff you and send you to a mental hospital, you are likely to be hospitalized for about a week then. It's pretty shity that counselors in suicide hotlines are not allowed to give personal opinions.
The hotlines now are just organizational systems that are run by rule followers.Over 40 years ago some were run and staffed with real people Sadly the same thing is happening to businesses, churches, and schools. You can still find people outside the collectivized "hive" by they are on the fringe. You might find a street cop or emergency room nurse that knows of an individual or small group that could be helpful, but state run organizations tend to be as helpful as the Department of Motor Vehicles.
while half laughing?! and that person got your number blocked :|I called my national one once when I was still a lot younger and a lot more naive about life because I got catfished and was incredibly upset because I had absolutely nobody else to talk to, besides the catfish. Dude gave very half-assed advice I don't even remember while barely containing his laughter and basically hung up. I tried to call back a little later to talk to somebody else and because I was just so desperate for any human contact at that time in my life and found out my number was blocked. Very nice.
It's been a long time ago and I was a completely different person. I'm not really upset about it anymore. I think they just don't vet the people that man the phones seriously because who cares? They're usually non-profit places and they don't earn money actually helping people. Maybe he did it to everyone. Maybe he thought it was funny. Maybe he was a psycho. Who knows. These places are useless and can be closed down as far as I'm concerned. I don't believe they can possibly help anyone, even if they always had had 100% good intentions, which I also don't believe.while half laughing?! and that person got your number blocked :|
I also have my doubts about how they can help (since they can only talk, and any action they take may be delayed for minutes), besides maybe short term persuasion. It's been a long time ago and I was a completely different person. I think a lot of these things stem from IMO outdated views, like somebody who is in a crisis is clearly not "thinking straight" and somebody who wants to end his/her life obviously is always mentally unstable in the moment and needs short term intervention and will be fine after, like he has some kind of seizure. All these ideas actually go back to the ancient belief that all mental illness is really just a lack of willpower. The crisis line worker helps you to overcome in a "weak moment" by "power of your will". Hence the word crisis. It's not really how mental illness works.I also have my doubts about how they can help (since they can only talk, and any action they take may be delayed for minutes), besides maybe short term persuasion.
