Mindful breathing, but underwater
larynx shut so I can't yell louder
salty eyes can't see much further
than down my arms that drag me under

I didn't mean to let you down
I didn't mean to go and drown
I'm sorry I'm distracted by
my burning lungs and salty eyes

I had no choice but to loosen my grip
It seems you already knew how to swim
I'll meet you at the other end
and maybe then we could still be friends
