Does anyone else mistake their imagination for reality

Like, if I think something a lot, eventually I kinda start to believe it. There are a lot of times where I've thought I had an assignment due that didn't exist, or that I did a chore that I never did. A lot of the time, I think events that happened in my dreams happened in real life. Thankfully, I've always been able to tell what is reality once someone points it out but... why brain?

The brain is a machine that creates illusions and constantly lies. Even what people perceive as real could be an illusion.
