I mean, who has facts on this. The options are heaven through the pearly gates (and I believe we've suffered enough to get a pass straight through), nothing, or reincarnation. Can't think of any others.

For me, the reincarnation is the most likely. And that's okay. I trust that compassion wins and I'll be pumped into a more compassionate place. Even if I do pass via ctb, compassion will win

For sure, possible. This is the 'nothing' option on my list. I can't write any of these off. But something in me feels very strongly there's a continuation, something more.

It's not to say any of the options are right or wrong, there's no way to know.

Reincarnation2 Reincarnation is one of those things I wish was real because it looks sick but realistically, well I don't have a strong opinion on if it's real or not because I haven't died yet. I tend to treat philosophy like this in the lens of how we treat fictional characters, detached from popular religion. Personally I think if reincarnation is real, it'll only be because some higher being thought it'll be very funny to make us repeat the same mistakes again (or they care way too much and wrote a fanfiction) and not in the Buddhist way or the Hindu way. It's hard to tell really if you don't have a concrete understanding on what said higher being may be because there's certainly one lurking beyond our scope (humans are just too fucked to not be some kind of alien soap opera) but I don't think they're gonna come down and tell us to write another holy book any time soon...

I think that Near Death Experiences are definitely a real phenomenon. Meaning, the people who have them definitely experienced something profound. But I think the most plausible explanation is that they are very vivid hallucinations caused by the brain releasing DMT to prepare for death.

Until it is proven otherwise, I think the most logical answer is that our awareness disappears when our brain shuts down, and that is simply the end. I used to think this was very a depressing concept that made life seem absolutely meaningless, but really, what's the alternative? That your soul leaves your body and find yourself in some other realm where you have to choose another body to incarnate into and do it all over again?

as with many things in my life, i'm agnostic to it. undecided, unsure.

oblivion and reincarnation could be viewed as identical from a subjective standpoint. after all, in your new life, you'd have no memories of your past lives. everything that you once considered as your self is gone. your personality, memory, etc. you're not really you then? so is there any practical difference between the two? i mean, i'd still prefer the latter, but from a subjective standpoint, there'd be no seeming difference. unless there's some awareness between lives.

i don't know what happens, but i tend to favor one idea. one idea who another person also thought of, Alan Watts. he said that we're just the universe playing hide and seek with itself. i think that's plausible, but it's not necessarily optimistic because when the universe dies, consciousness also dies, so basically it's eternal oblivion with extra steps.

but yeah, i guess who knows. it could be something else entirely that nobody has come up with yet. i'd bet that if there is an afterlife, though, i don't see why it would be any simpler than our current reality. the universe is complex, why would the afterlife be split up into two extremes of heaven and hell? doubtful, i think. i think the afterlife would be just as intricate as this if not more. but, that's just a guess and i don't really have anything to back up that claim.

what you believe is an interesting question, but I think another interesting question is, what do you want to believe? if you had your way, what would you want death to be like?

Sure. I think we got to go with our experiences and our beliefs kinda come from there. If there's a god waiting at a pearly gate he's getting a slap. If it's nothing but compost, well so be it. That feels quite sad.

But for me, I dropped out 10 years ago and emersed myself in Buddhist and Hindu communities. I've seen enough to have a basic leaning towards this reincarnation. But I don't swallow all the Buddhist and hindu stuff, too much religious and human twists on it. It's a more compassionate movement forwards.

But who knows. I'd like to find out. I'm genuinely ready.

Inalso believe the time-space becomes irrelevant past the physical, so the alien cultures out there have us earthlings as a whopping soap opera.

life is meaningless. that realization can be very depressing, but it can also be very liberating depending on how you view it. if life is meaningless, then life is basically just a game. it's basically just the universe's playground. i highly recommend watching Kurzgesagt's video on optimistic nihilism.

Yes. This current life is one of misery and pain. In the next I'll be exploring the stars in a space ship with a cowboy jumping through wormholes.

I don't want to be reincarnated. I couldn't do this all over again, nor would I want to.

I just want to find who I promised to find. And hopefully they are waiting.

And even if it's to oblivion, we can go together.

I have to hold on to some hope that they are waiting. Even if it's by a thread.

It would be too much to say that I believe in it intellectually. I call myself a "sympathetic agnostic" because I feel that there must be some truth in it.

Gee, I hope not.

I can't stand living a single second longer and you tell me I have to do it all over again? Next time even worse because of my sins from previous one?

Miss me with that shit.

yes, otherwise how would deja vu, natural/unexplainable talents and odd strong fears (different from evolutionary) exist? these 3 are good hints to find out whether you are living your first life or spiritually experienced from past lives

I don't believe in it. It's only human ego that makes people want to believe in things like that. Where's the proof? Is there even a bit of proof? Ultimately, people want to believe certain things. I think it helps them keep going.

Religion is the same as well.No proof whatsoever, but people will still believe. I'm a bit more cynical when it comes to these things.

I don't believe in reincarnation. I believe that you die and that's it.

But I don't blame or shame people for believing in it. I think people should believe whatever they need to, to get through.

I don't believe in reincarnation. I believe that nothing happens after death. You are just your biology at the end of the day. I don't get why people believe in things like heaven or reincarnation. Even my bf, who is Christian, doesn't believe in that stuff. I feel like it makes more sense to assume that nothing happens after death unless, somehow, solid proof is found showing otherwise. Especially since, so far, our understanding of neuroscience points to our consciousness just being a product of brain activity that can change as a result of damage to the brain, which makes it seem more likely that nothing happens to you after death.

No, I just believe death to be non-existence where this dreadful, cruel and futile existence I always saw as a mistake is finally all forgotten, for me non-existence is all that's positive, I just want to never suffer ever again, I'd never wish for the torturous burden of existence rather all I want is some peace and I'll only be at peace in non-existence as after all if I'm gone I cannot suffer.
