as with many things in my life, i'm agnostic to it. undecided, unsure.
oblivion and reincarnation could be viewed as identical from a subjective standpoint. after all, in your new life, you'd have no memories of your past lives. everything that you once considered as your self is gone. your personality, memory, etc. you're not really you then? so is there any practical difference between the two? i mean, i'd still prefer the latter, but from a subjective standpoint, there'd be no seeming difference. unless there's some awareness between lives.
i don't know what happens, but i tend to favor one idea. one idea who another person also thought of, Alan Watts. he said that we're just the universe playing hide and seek with itself. i think that's plausible, but it's not necessarily optimistic because when the universe dies, consciousness also dies, so basically it's eternal oblivion with extra steps.
but yeah, i guess who knows. it could be something else entirely that nobody has come up with yet. i'd bet that if there is an afterlife, though, i don't see why it would be any simpler than our current reality. the universe is complex, why would the afterlife be split up into two extremes of heaven and hell? doubtful, i think. i think the afterlife would be just as intricate as this if not more. but, that's just a guess and i don't really have anything to back up that claim.
what you believe is an interesting question, but I think another interesting question is, what do you want to believe? if you had your way, what would you want death to be like?
