Discussion Decapitation. Is it instant or not?

Does anyone know… is decapitation really instant?

I've heard stories, like that one about a French scientist during the Revolution who supposedly told spectators he'd keep blinking for as long as he could to test how instant it was. He kept blinking for a while after being decapitated. I don't know if it's true or just a rumor, but it makes me wonder… how fast does the body actually shut down?

Yes, with blood pressure dropping to zero instantly, you'd be unconscious within a blink of an eye. Pun intended.
