The link is not working. The name of the video is Nick Schou and Ben Collins: "Contemporary and Classic Conspiracy Theories" by Pitzer College
Now the link is working.
I watched this lecture on conspiracy theories because I wanted to learn more about how US intelligence services influence media outlets.
The takes by Ben Collins can also be found in mass media. It was nothing new.
I found more interesting what Nick Schou had to say. He had a collegue (a journalist) who commited suicide after getting discredited and attacked by major news outlets. His collegue reported about connections between the CIA and Nicaraguan caretells. He says most journalists have no clue what they are talking about when they report on a story on secret matters (to 80%). They are dependent too much on the sources and are thus in a conflict of interest. They have to maintain their relation with higher ups and at the same time they have no access to the full reporting. Of course he alludes that people wanted to destroy the life of his collegue for his honest reporting. There were too powerful people involved and mainstream media was complicit in ruining his life. And it is of course a chilling effect if something this horrible happens after an investigative reporting.
There is a scientist/listener in the room who criticized Ben Collins. Everything journalists do is creating narratives with no substance. There are is a small minority who is brave but only part-time.
Always follow the money.
