Just wondering about general dangers and consequences of leaving a digital footprint after killing yourself? As a person will be dead after ctb they won't face any consequences but I assume others might. What are those consequences for the people still alive?

Also how does one delete their digital footprint and what can the most a person can do to do that?

Well, it also happens in life, there are people who can use your image and impersonate you to deceive others.

I don't think I'll delete any of my online accounts. I'll just wipe all my devices (PC and cell phone) so that this site isn't at risk or registered anywhere. And I'm going to get rid of my notebook where I write down all my passwords. I've never used my real name online so I don't worry about it that much. I've never had a fixed nickname either, I'm almost always changing them.

Sure there can be consequences. If you have information that could incriminate someone it might happen, I think it depends on the laws of your country. As for emotional damage it can be hard on those close to you to read through some stuff, like maybe your posts on this forum.

It can be pretty hard. Some cloud services store your data for some time after you cancel, some services only delete your account 1 month after requesting, and places like reddit dont even delete your comments and things like that. There are some services for reducing/deleting your digital footprint but I don't know anything about their efficacy.

To be fair almost no one bothers suicide victims and their families, the maximum it can happen is you being infamous or just a sub meme like a known person who killed themselves with like idk comments under your photos or something.

In most countries, a suicide is considered a crime scene and leads to an investigation. That means that a lot of the info that can be traced back to you that you leave online will most likely be made public/made aware to your closed ones.

If you told some close people about your intentions to cbt, they might face legal consequences for not contacting the emergencies (non-assistance to people in danger is a crime in certain countries), so that's something to be careful of.

It happened recently to a guy called Nautica something, he committed suicide after being caught on a drive through without pants. What he did was disgusting, but I can't help but wonder what he was going through. Now people call him the 'goonlord' and are having rallies and stuff, truly disgusting behaviour. Just leave the man alone, he is not with us anymore

I don't think that effects digital footprint. Those are stuff locally on the computer, not the internet.

I can't comment on the legal implications but in terms of removing your online footprint, most of it just comes down to deleting all your accounts on everything followed by resetting all your devices. Even when you delete your account data can still be recovered but not much you can do about that. Plus, its unlikely anybody will be putting in the effort to dig up data on you after you're gone. You may know that deleting data on your computer doesn't actually delete it. I've written a couple posts about how to securely erase data here. This is probably only needed if you're extra paranoid though.
