I have a tank of 20% Carbon Monoxide Calibration Gas in 80% Nitrogen 550L with a regulator, flow meter, and non-rebreather oxygen mask. Do you think this would get the job done? Nembutal seems to be the ideal way to go but is difficult to obtain and from my research carbon monoxide and nitrogen seems to be the best alternatives. I'm claustrophobic and don't really want a bag over my head and the idea is that if I did it in a car which is enclosed the carbon monoxide would be fatal within a couple minutes. Carbon monoxide is what Kevorkian resorted to and seemed to work well but he was using 100% carbon monoxide from what I understand. I'm also hoping this would be a painless method.
My gas is 200,000 ppm carbon monoxide...the internet says 12,800 ppm: After 1 to 3 minutes, you may lose consciousness or die. This should work, right? At a flow rate of 15 LPM the gas should flow for 30 minutes.

I guess it works much more in very small space like exit bags... The volume of mid-size cars is 3,115–3,395 L. If you do this in a car, the CO ppm will decrease to no more than 32,400 ppm (200,000ppm x 550L / 3,395L). This is still higher than the deadly level, but when taking account of leakage it's hard to predict...

The non-rebreather mask should deliver a very high concentration of carbon monoxide so the vehicle size shouldn't matter but is kind of a fail safe. Do you think this would be painless?

"The biggest risk of a non-rebreather mask is that it can cause suffocation. This is because it doesn't allow you to inhale any outside air. You can only inhale the air inside the oxygen tank. So, when the oxygen tank empties, the person wearing the non-rebreather doesn't get air. A healthcare provider should watch you closely when you're using a non-rebreather mask to make sure the oxygen tank doesn't empty."

If you use a non-rebreather oxygen mask, do you need to enclose your car? I think it's overkill. You just need to avoid getting interrupted by someone for the safety of you and them. In the inert gas method, non-rebreather oxygen masks are advised against because they let a small amount of air to enter. But when the gas is CO, small air flow may be acceptable. CO is fatal because it makes your blood cells unable to utilize oxygen. Air flow cannot prevent or cure this.

The user comment above seems to contradict with your statement that non-rebreather masks cause suffocation when the gas runs out.

The suffocation feeling would only come IF there is oxygen in the system, because you'd breathe in the oxygen and create carbon dioxide and with the non-rebreather keeping a closed system, you'd have no choice but to be breathing that carbon dioxide back in... and that is where your body reacts with the suffocation feeling. IF there is no oxygen or carbon dioxide in the closed system... then there will be no feeling of suffocation.

From Wikipedia...

"Kevorkian assisted others with a device that employed a gas mask fed by a canister of carbon monoxide which was called "Mercitron" (mercy machine).[1] This became necessary because Kevorkian's medical license had been revoked after the first two deaths, and he could no longer have legal access to the substances required for the "Thanatron". It was a rudimentary device consisting of a canister of carbon monoxide attached to a face mask with a tube. A valve must be released to start the gas flowing. Depending on the person's disability, a makeshift handle may be attached to the valve to make it easier to turn. Or, with the valve in the "open" position, a clip or clothespin could be clamped on the tubing. Pulling it off allows the gas to flow. By Kevorkian's estimates, this method took 10 minutes or longer. Sometimes he encouraged people to take sedatives or muscle relaxants to keep them calm as they breathed deeply of the gas."

10 minutes??? 😭
