I went to all the places where the FAQ said there would be a 'disable account' option but cannot find it for the life of me

Go to three bar menu at the top left (on phones anyway.) Click on the person icon = your profile. Down at the bottom- 'Disable account.' I imagine that would do it- although- I haven't tried.
