You might be too new to dm. You'll need to interact in the community, comment and react to posts to get access to DMs I'm pretty sure.

make post and interact on others peoples post took me only a day. basically it's two ways to be able to PM somebody both do the same thing , first you will unlock the start conversation which is a way to privately DM somebody then after a number of post you make you will unlock private messages
