For now I have had dreams and immersive thoughts in which I see how I die from an accident at home or have a seizure that causes me mental retardation or leaves me in a paraplegic state, this worries me because I have been afraid that I will remain in such a state , a few weeks ago I dreamed that I had a sudden seizure in bed and I died, I consulted with a psychologist friend and he told me that it was most likely that these things were due to some brain injury caused by having been with depression for so long

What do you think?

Seems possible that depression requires the brain… causing "damage"

Seizures are more likely to cause emotional distress; mood swings, anger, sadness, for no reason. Also they tend to exacerbate mental illness struggles

Brain Injury? O.O

I'm not a doctor. But I don't think depression can cause such thing.

It might be able to affect your thoughts which will impact on your dreams.

Just my options here:
Long term depression could be able to change your brain a little. Maybe affect the way synapses are formed and result in a more destructive version of yourself.

But I think that wouldn't last forever.

Weird thing for a professional to say. Dream analysis isn't an actual field and I don't understand how dreaming about having a seizure indicates anything about a person. I bet lots of people have dreams like that all the time. Seizures are a scary thing.

Depression can absolutely change and even damage the brain over time, but I'm not sure "injury" would be the right word. "Brain damage" might be more accurate but that term is kind of already taken and has its own separate connotations. Either way, I don't think any link has been established between people dreaming about brain damage/injury and actually being brain damaged/injured. This is just me, but I would probably ask this friend where they heard that part if I got the chance.

its normal i would say, even i do struggle with those type of fears that just get so intense that i dream about them and get even more afraid..

im pretty sure that depression doesn't cause brain injury.. imo its complete bs, while its true that depressed people perceive fears, pain, etc more intense/differently, brain injury is something completely different though..

Yup. Concluding that a couple of bad dreams about seizures are due to serious brain damage is pretty, pretty dumb. I've been having horrifying nightmares for decades & my friggin' brain works just fine most of the time. 🙄
