Help Atenolol vs Propranolol (SN)

I was going through some of my stuff and found a bottle of atenolol from when my cat had heart disease. It's regular human drugs, just a smallish dose.

I know theyre both beta blockers and looking it up, it seems like atenolol is more effective than propranolol in some ways, but there hasn't been any discussion here on how interchangable they are for SN. Just wondering if anyone has any insights.

I think Atenolol takes longer to work. Propranolol can be taken just an hour before needed.

If propranolol is taken with cimetidine, the cimetidine increases the effect of the propranolol. Atenolol isn't affected by cimetidine. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/0002870389900859

Atenolol binds to B1 receptors so it only has an effect on the heart.
Propranolol binds to B1 and B2 receptors and affects the heart, smooth muscle, and metabolism.

If you can't find propranolol, the atenolol will probably be OK.

They will do basically the same thing with the exception that propranolol is a little better for more of the physical symptoms of anxiety.
