"Youre so selfish". "I want you around, how could you do this to those who love you". Shit like that. Anyone else tired of these "motivational words"? They always fall on deaf ears for me. Nothing anyone says makes me feel better. At all.

Same, it's like these words/phrases are used so much and without actual feeling they are hollow now. They say things like this because they were taught it's the only right thing to do.

Yes, I have had to deal with those words for years, I already know their speeches by heart. But they are selfish, they want us to live being forced to stay here for them.

I always find it rather ironic and amusing when people call my desire to commit suicide selfish, albeit in a way that also makes me want to hurl something through the nearest window. Pot, meet kettle...

The selfish thing I find ridiculous really cause in any case we're all selfish. You want me to live so you can avoid those uncomfortable feelings associated with me taking my life and I wanna die to avoid those uncomfortable feelings associated with me being alive.

Yes. Their intentions are not altruistic. They don't care about our well being or our happiness as much as their own. They deserve compassion but What they are saying is like a boyfriend saying to his girlfriend she is selfish for breaking up with him, even if she is not happy in the relationship. People gotta learn to let go and allow others to choose their own way. Will it be painful? Yes. But the suicidal person is NOT responsible for the unhappiness of others. People are responsible for their own happiness only . Not someone else's.

I can think of no better way to alienate the suicidal, than to throw guilt trips and vapid platitudes at them.
It serves as a painful but clear reminder, that we suicidals are all so very alone on this earth. I think it's the most important lesson to take to heart, lest we fall into trusting others with the knowlege of our intentions.

Yes totally. It infuriates me. As long as you are are not dead they can be OK. So they are happy for you to suffer as long as they don't have to suffer.... Talk about selfish. People should love you the way they wish they did when you are dead, but if they can't do that they have no say about your life.

I don't know about anyone else but I feel like people only want to keep me around against my will for their own selfish purposes, to help them do things, help with the drudgery of daily life. If the people closest to me only knew what I went thru every day, they wouldn't beg me to stick around.

My parents always told me: Parents should never have to bury their children or something along the lines. Yet the second you ask for help they dismiss you cause your lifestyle isn't what they wanted.

I'm keeping my plan to ctb or even that I'm having suicidal thoughts a secret partially for that reason (other part that I don't want my plan ruined). But yeah, when I was open about it and trying to get help, I got told some of this shit, even by mental health professionals. It made my blood boil.

Yeah and what about that "suicide is a cowardly way out" bullshit. People who actually have the courage to kill themselves to face the unknown are "cowards"
Its just projection because they know theyre the ones scared of the idea of no longer existing.

It Ironic because you could turn it around on them very hard and you would have the facts on your side. You could talk about how them eating meat shows they support the brutal torture of animals, how the materials they buy exploits lower class people in other countries, how they claim to care so much about life, but they don't bother to think about the 6 year old kid they could of stopped from starving to death for a small amount of money, etc. You could talk about how they think you should live for them is incredibly possessive and abusive etc. How their believes(eternal torute?) are the most screwed up thing imaginable etc.

So true and they always say that they would be devastated and they would suffer. And how selfish I am not to think about the people I will leave behind. Like wtf. Do you even think about my feelings? Don't you see how much pain I'm dealing with? How much I'm trying to deal with all the shits thrown at me? You don't even make it easier for me. You're one of the fucking problem too.

I have also been raised in a way "suicide is selfish". That's why I have chosen a long term "project". If I'm ill I just go on working and sporting. Harder than normally. Never go to the doctor (it's not easy not to go because in my country health care is almost free for everyone). I have three or four small fractures that I have just let get better on their own. I have not been lucky yet... My body is far too strong. Only a small heart failure after these 38 years... But I believe that some day my body will give up.

I agree. They're more selfish than you because they're making you go through misery to make themselves happy. Ironic, isn't it? They've obviously never been suicidal. You go ahead and be happy honey. Relieve yourself. No one wants you to be miserable here x
