I don't know if anybody's coined the term before but I'm referring to the purposed MAID program expansion in 2027. I don't mean I'm necessarily waiting til ten but rather that's the absolute latest I plan on being alive whether it's repealed/expanded or not. It brings some comfort to know that there may be a peaceful means to an exit on the not too distant horizon but I'm not getting my hopes up. Also just a MAID discussion thread.

It's probably just going to get pushed back again. Along with that, it is likely that only those with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, will be eligible for it. Most mentally ill individuals likely won't qualify for it, though I might be wrong.

I tend to agree that it'll likely be delayed again but of course I'm hoping it's not. I didn't even consider your second point but it's very valid and the fact that it's even a point of contention makes another delay all the more likely. How do you quantify suffering? It would be a grievous violation of my rights to say that someone else's suffering from mental illness is greater than mine. I'm hoping that the safeguards they implement and the ones they already have in place will be enough to allow people afflicted with depression and or anxiety to qualify.

I think it'll probably be put on hold again or abolished. Even though the Supreme Court here ordered it done.

I've mentioned it before. But I'll throw it out there again. For anyone that doesn't know. Developmental and cognitive conditions are not mental health conditions for MAID if someone told you different. So things like autism, ADHD, dementias, are all valid reasons to apply.

It'll be a hell of a fight to get approved for that though. I've been trying for almost 3.5 years now. I don't think I'm waiting much longer. Especially since medical professionals in the MAID program straight up told me to give up and ctb instead...

Thanks for that info, I had no idea. I definitely have autism and maybe ADHD but neither are formally diagnosed so it would be an even harder fight. I imagine you'd need a pretty long paper trail proving you have those conditions.

That's really shocking that a professional told you that. That comment could be indicative of how uphill that battle will be. It wouldn't surprise me if there's people in the field that know a little more than the general public.

As unfortunate as it is I could see the legislature being drawn out a decade or more especially for something this unprecedented. At the end of the day it all depends who's in power cause it seems like the conservative government wants nothing more than to get rid of it all together.

Even more most people In the MAID program don't even know what I said in my last post. I've gotten responses from people in the program saying that ADHD and autism are mental health conditions.

I raged for a week afterwards. But I did get to speak once to a doctor last year that does MAID. The only one in my area. When I said I was applying for it because of autism. She told me it's mental health and I can't until it passes. I actually had to show her the MAID standard model and practices (I think that's what it was called). Where it expicitly showed in the definitions and clearifications that developmental and congitive conditions are not mental health for that definition. The response I got was that I was really smart to figure that out (really!? I just read their own documentation) and as such she didn't feel comfortable in euthanizing me because of it. It would be a waste of resources to do it and I could still contribute. Like get a job at best buy, etc... I was so pissed and degraded from that. She didn't even consider or ask about why I wanted MAID or my suffering. Just like a 'you know you can apply for this?' 'then nope your too smart to be allowed to be releaved of your suffering'.

There's a bunch that's gone wrong the last 3.5 years. That's why I'm on the virge of taking a bus ride.

I hope that anyone else on here has had any better experience than I've had. I know each province is different and it depends on the doctors that you get as they are granted great leyway in their decisions on the matter. I know there's compasionate ones out there. But the specifc doctors and nurses I've dealt with where I live are monsters.

It can't be understated how actually insane their response was. What province are you in? if you don't mind me asking. I'm in ontario. I can't say I know how you feel cause I've never walked in your shoes. But I too have been treated like actual shit by our healthcare system and every single GP I've dealt with has been horrible. They talk down to me, dismiss me, and put me on medication that causes brain damage. I stopped going altogether years ago because of the abuse they put me through.

Like you said I'm sure there's a few good ones out there but this profession seems to have some the worst people working in it. They're all narcissistic with God complexes and we're just a number to them. I think another factor is just who you are or how you look. If you're well dressed, good looking, and/or a woman I suspect you get better treatment on average. I'm an ugly, poorly dressed white man so my life isn't worthy to them.

I'm still holding on to that little shred of hope that it'll soon be accessable, for you, me, and everyone else that's needlessly suffering.
