I don't know what the likelihood of remaining asleep after such an overdose is, unfortunately, but I am wondering the same with respect to N2O and drowning.

I don't know if using benzos/z-drug will keep you asleep because that depends on how deep sedation is relative to the hypercapnic alarm and probably the overall pain level, but any amount of sedation should certainly lessen the distress experienced when drowning.
I think that the other problem is the question of timing - how are you going to ensure that you fall asleep whilst in sufficiently deep water?
