Okay so for some context I'm a math tutor and I absolutely love my job and i've never had a problem with any of my coworkers, except for this one guy. There was a day where he was nitpicking everything I did and naturally it pissed me off but I kinda just waited before really reacting and it seemed like maybe he was just having a bad day or something. So anyway time passes and he keeps saying things about how I do my job (mind you, i've been working at this job for over double of the time he has) but I brushed it off. Now last time I saw him he was about to leave (i think his last day was the day after) and he mentioned "you can't rely on me anymore" when I got a highschool student doing algebra 2. I asked for his help with a strategy one time. But whatever, brushed it off. Finally, we got to close and he starts talking about the way I tutor, seeming to think me not trying to be the "adult" and instead being like a friend or older sibling and so, still trying to be civil i say "I don't know, I think it's good to let the kids have some fun while they're here. their attitude is super important" That conversation continued and I don't know. It was right in front of the manager figure and she didn't say anything so I figured I was overthinking things. The only compliment i've ever gotten came from this conversation was how well I managed the kids game time (10 minutes if they're there for an hour, 15 for 90 minutes). I don't know if I'm being sensitive about it or if I'm right for feeling angry at him.

It could be both? Sounds like he's a bit of an ass, but it's also bothering you a fair amount. Maybe your calls for shrugging your shoulders.

Yeah, I wouldn't appreciate that. It doesn't sound like it's even his place to assess you. Sounds like he's way up his own arse: 'you can't rely on me anymore'. Lol. I imagine you partly asked for his input that time out of respect for a colleague. Not because you didn't know what to do!

I imagine all teachers have their own style. I'd only start to worry if multiple of your students were failing or, if your higher ups were displeased with something.

Sounds like it's good riddance to that guy. There always are some people who like to police everyone else. I think you did a good job of keeping your cool with them.

In a way, that's a learning curve though. That there are some people it's best to try and stay away from where possible.

Yeah. I'm kinda wondering if he's just a blunt communicator but I really don't know.

Right yeah. Most of the students I work with absolutely love sitting with me. Of course there's a few who don't exactly match well with how I teach, but that's why we have multiple instructors. At the end of the day, I know I'm not going to get a kid to learn math, much less be excited about it, if they're not having fun. It's also just a good motivator when you know that at the end when you get all of your work done you get to play a quick game

Right??? I've been working with this specific company for almost 3 years now, 2 years at my current location. Honestly I'm glad he's not coming back. I even asked why he was leaving and he talked to me like I was stupid for asking. Idk why he couldn't have just said that he needs a higher paying job instead of acting like I'm an idiot
